Noodle Workshop - Tom Yum Noodle (Preview)

Preview of Tom Yum noodle soup.  The recipe is 90% complete, but not there yet - this recipe should only require ingredients which are sold in New York City.  (No trip to Asian specialty stores for something exotic which you only use it once a year.)

Hot and sour flavor in the cold weather...

It's great to be alive!

Recession Special! $2.25 Soy Beans

Another "Recession Special" mission completed!  The Project experienced a major cut in funding due to exercising an early termination option on the contract with the Corporate client.  "I don't see any major issues associated with our decision." Maki, a self-proclaimed CFO commented confidently.  "We have a right strategy in place.  Most importantly, our alliances with veggies are so strong, we are confident that we will get through this period of challenge and expect to see surging profits by the end of the fiscal year."

So, let's enjoy the ride.  Shall we?

Let's see how much $2.25 soy beans can do for the Project.

"1 lb of Soy Bean" for only $2.25 was transformed to:

"One cup of soy milk"
Soy milk.  Sweet flavor with a bit of bitterness.  Great for  making  creamy soup.
Soy milk shot with cinnamon and brown sugar

A pot of Heavenly "Tofu"
Mmm.. great with hot sake
Tofu with soy sauce, citrus juice, green onion , and ginger

Lots of "Okara"! = the edible meal-like residue left after the production of tofu
Good for multiple-use such as making cookies,  soy pattie, etc.
Shots from Tofu making process:

Let's not forget about 99 cents bean sprouts.  Removed the tails of bean sprouts and marinated with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. (no, waste!)  Mix it with any veggie spread - it will give really nice crunchiness.  It's great to be alive.

These guys will enrich the fridge for the next several days... Great job, soy beans!!!

Eating Breathlessly...

Have you ever eaten food without breathing?
If so, what was it?
Could you please share?

Cooked brown rice in an iron cast pot - steaming.  Broiled a salted sardine in the oven - a sound of fish oil getting boiled.  Glazed daikon radish vigorously to compliment the fish.  Squeezed lime juice over it. Soy sauce, too, of course.

Cooked red miso soup quickly in a tiny pot - smell of soy bean.

Irresistibly, pulled out several rice condiments from the fridge...

Found myself eating breathlessly.  100% focus.  Undivided attention

Condiments for brown rice:
1. Sesame seeds, shitake mushroom, and sea salt.  Roasted.  Then, finished with a hint of sesame oil.
2. Ginger roots and green peppers marinated in white miso.

1. Konbu seaweed and abura age (fried soy cake) cooked with sansyo pepper, sake, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
2. Raw cilantro marinated with ginger, salt, and olive oil.

Abura age (fried soy cake) stuffed with carrots and garlic.  Complimented with nira and bean sprouts.

Installation In Progress.

"Sudden death chicken" from yesterday did not do a job. The subject matter, "M", commented that it was really tasty, and he really meant it. (He was coughing up for 30 minutes though.) Immediately urged him to get a physical check-up.

How can anyone enjoy a piece of burnt chicken with
3 tbsp of salt
3 tbsp of black pepper
shower of Tabasco

It looked like a bird which struck the airplane's engine!!!!!
The project is currently undergoing preparation for the next show. Meanwhile, cooked several veggie dishes which could be stocked in the fridge for several days to weeks.
Condiments for rice:
1. Ginger, mustard, and sesame seeds, simmered in sake.
2.. "Konbu" Seaweed simmered in sake and soy sauce topped with sesame seeds.
3. Raw long hot peppers marinated with miso. Make sure to remove seeds. (This one rocks!)

Skin of Daikon radish and Cilantro cooked with sake and soy sauce.
Carrot pickles with shiso herb.

Boiled carrots marinated with apple vinegar and white pepper.
Boiled cauliflower marinated with curry powder and coriander seeds.

Enoki mushroom cooked in veggie soup stock, soy sauce and sake. "Umami" flavor from mushroom is so heavenly.

What is your favorite veggie dishes which can be stocked?

Can you share your recipe with me?

Have a nice day!

Would you like Chicken or Cauliflower? Bento

The 30-day challenge of re-balancing the subject matter's eating habit completed yesterday.  (His diet consisted of 90% of meats and junk foods and 10% alcohol before the challenge.  The challenge helped him increase the consumption of veggies up to 33%.)  M, the subject matter, asked Maki to include meats and dairy to the bento boxes as the challenge is over.

Maki takes her pride in making vegetarian bento boxes.  What he did not realize was that his statement was equivalent to ordering Big Mac at the Sushi bar.

"OK. Fine."  This is a great opportunity to expand horizon of the Project.

Sudden death chicken:  Chicken extremely dried and burnt to its perfection.  Loaded with black pepper, Tabasco, and salt.  Enjoy the choking sensation.  The purchase of life insurance is required.

If you were him,
Do you prefer to eat this?

or

be punched with Cauliflower?

Which do you prefer?
